Principles of Fire Safety
The CABE Principles of Fire Safety course covers the first principles of fire safety and gives an introduction to fire safety design. The course is aimed at those new to fire safety design working in the design, construction and inspection areas of the built environment.

 


6 CPD Hours Course Overview 

This course will introduce delegates to the principles of fire safety, fire science, fire behaviour and human behaviour in fire.

The course will outline the key regulations (in particular Part B of the building regulations), introduce the basic building components associated with fire safety and the principles of means of escape. The course will conclude with a test and suggested next steps.

Steve has over 15 years of fire safety experience, progressing to become Head of Specialist Training at Part B in 2021. His previous roles include Fire Safety Trainer, Fire Safety Deputy Team Leader and Senior Fire Consultant for BB7.

Andy Kelly - Red Button Fire  

Andy has over 30 years of Fire and Rescue Service experience, including more than 10 years working in fire safety departments and managing inspecting officer teams. He was lead instructor for four years of the building regulations guidance course at the Fire Service College and has a BEng(Hons) is in Fire Safety Engineering. Andy now works part-time as a fire safety trainer and consultant.

Steve Glass - Part B

Steve is a seasoned professional with 28 years at Kent Fire & Rescue Service, excelling in operational, training, and fire safety roles. He is a Chartered Member of IOSH, a Member of the Institute of Fire Engineers, and holds numerous safety qualifications including NEBOSH and NVQ Level 5 Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety. He is also a registered CITB/NEBOSH tutor.

 

 


 

Development Outcomes

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

  • demonstrate an understanding of the first principles of fire safety
  • recognise the key legislation associated with the design and inspection of fire safety, buildings requirements and guidance
  • have an awareness of the importance of fire science and fire behaviour in buildings
  • be able to identify key building components essential to good fire safety design
  • describe the key human response in fire; and
  • recognise the need for further training to be able to design and check for compliance with current legislation

Is this course for you?

This course has been designed for new entrants to the industry, or those with basic fire safety knowledge and is a pre-requisite for the  Fire Safety Practitioner Certificate or the Principles of Fire Safety in Purpose-Built Flats course.

The Fire Safety Practitioner Certificate and the Principles of Fire Safety in Purpose-Built Flats courses are aimed at learners who already have a base level understanding of the principles of fire safety, fire science, fire behaviour and human behaviour in fire. To ensure learners are at the correct level to undertake these courses, we suggest you enrol in the Principles of Fire Safety course first, to ensure you can keep pace with the lessons.
