Building Engineers operate across the life-cycle of the built environment encompassing the design, build, maintenance and repurposing of the spaces and places where we live, work and interact.

In the Republic of Ireland, Chartered Building Engineers may register with SCSI in order to use the professional titles of Building Surveyor and Quantity Surveyor, in line with the Building Control Act 2007 to show they are properly qualified to perform these roles.
