CABE Why Join?

From Students to Associates, Chartered Members and Fellows, we have a variety of membership options to suit your level of training and experience. Regardless of which type you apply for, being a member of the Chartered Association of Building Engineers is first and foremost a sign of your commitment to the industry.

Symbol of Competence

One of the primary benefits of being a member of CABE is the post-nominal letters which represent a level of achievement, competency and dedication to your career.

CABE makes rigorous strides to screen applications, ensuring that we put all of our support behind the best in the industry.

Raising Standards

Membership of CABE is internationally recognised, signifying to employers, clients and the public that you are a competent professional who can be relied upon to strive for the highest possible standards.

Our Membership Competency Frameworks outline the requirements for each grade of membership and provides a clear framework for you to develop throughout your career.

Sharing Knowledge

Members of CABE have access to multiple sources of relevant industry and technical information including our journal, Building Engineer, which is also available online at buildingengineer.org.uk; our suite of webinars; as well as opportunities to contribute to consultations and surveys that feed directly into government and industry working groups.

Developing Professionals

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is essential for all building engineers to develop as both individuals and professionals. It is a requirement for CABE Members at a paying grade (excluding Retired) to undertake 35 hours of CPD per year. All members have access to the CABE Competency Management System (CMS) to support their CPD and goals.

Conferences and Exhibitions

CABE’s Built Environment Conference Series is accompanied by a programme of regional CPD activities and buildeng conferences that take place throughout the year. Held in and around the UK and the Republic of Ireland, these events support the built environment sector, offering insight, ideas and guidance to building engineer professionals, allowing for their continued professional development.

Unifying Voice

CABE is a unifying voice within the construction sector. By supporting members who work across the life-cycle of the built environment, specialising across a wide range of disciplines, CABE brings members together to share knowledge, raise standards and develop professionals. By improving collaboration across disciplines, members are able to raise competency throughout the industry.

All members have access to a strong, professional community at local, national and international levels. Regular free events are held throughout the UK and Ireland, as well as by our international chapters. As a member, you have access to the CABE Community, an online forum giving you direct access to other building engineers and enabling you to discuss relevant issues, share knowledge, and provide solutions.
