The CABE Built Environment Awards are a marker of industry standards, giving building engineers the recognition for excellence and ingenuity that they deserve. Considering sustainability, inclusivity, and societal impact, the Awards Panel assess submissions across a variety of criteria.
Winners are selected by the Awards Panel and presented with an award during the CABE Built Environment Awards Ceremony.
Young Building Engineer of the Year 2024
Tang Kai Yiu Raymond
The winner of this award is Tang Kai Yiu Raymond, CR’s Construction Company’s Project Manager at the New Research Building 1 Project. His exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills have been instrumental in managing his team and fostering a collaborative work environment. Raymond has successfully delivered projects on time and within budget thanks to his solid knowledge of construction management principles and practices, and his innovative thinking and problem-solving skills.
The Young Building Engineer of the Year award gives us an opportunity to recognise the next generation of building engineers and highlight their dedication, drive and commitment to the built environment. This award demonstrates that through their continuous drive for improvement, they have had a positive impact on the sector.
Building Engineer of the Year 2024
David Humphreys
The winner of this award is David Humphreys, Group Director at Architectural Conservation Professionals. David Humphreys has worked within the global built environment sector for more than 30 years. Since 2000, as Director of ACP in Ireland, he has been dedicated to promoting best construction methods within historical structures while supporting traditional building techniques. David, a CABE Fellow, has worked tirelessly to promote best conservation practice, raising standards in Ireland and internationally. He also continues to hone his own skills to aid in the positive development of his colleagues’ skills to achieve the best for building engineers and our built environment.
The Building Engineer of the Year award shines a spotlight on the contributions and achievements of the most competent professionals within the construction industry. This award looks to recognise dedication to competency, driving standards and demonstrating best practice in every area of a building engineer’s work.
Apprentice of the Year 2024
Adam Griffin
The winner of this award is Adam Griffin. Since joining Assent in September 2020, Adam has shown exemplary professionalism, commitment and conduct. His gifts as a natural leader were clear from the very beginning of his apprenticeship as he mastered complex tasks and motivated fellow group learners to progress at an accelerated pace. Adam exhibited the competence and aptitude to conduct his own inspections on housing sites within only a few months of becoming an apprentice.
The Apprentice of the Year award highlights an individual who has made a significant contribution to their workplace, whilst demonstrating a commitment to both their career and the development of the sector. This individual will be passionate and dedicated to their studies, eager and able to apply this knowledge to their career in a bid to positively impact the built environment and succeed in their field.
