Richard HarralReport and Accounts for the year ended 31 August 2024

This has been a landmark year for both CABE and the wider construction industry as regulatory systems reform continues. In England, we have seen the implementation of the Building Safety Act, which will force widespread change in industry practice, yet in the short term it has caused significant disruption. Other significant reforms also continue in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. It has been a particularly important period for building control members in England and Wales, whose profession is now regulated.

It has also been a tough 12 months for many, with the Interior Services Group insolvency emphasising the strain imposed on all construction sector businesses by sustained high levels of inflation and the surge in material costs triggered by global events and UK economic policy interventions. Despite this, CABE has managed to sustain positive engagement with its membership and continues to work with the CABE Benevolent Fund to support those struggling with the cost-of-living crisis.
