An IFE Recognised Course, the CABE Fire Safety Practitioner Certificate Course is an introduction to the interpretation and practical application of Part B of the Building Regulations and builds on the CABE Fire Principles course.
Event Summary
This intensive five-day course, aimed at users of Approved Document B (ADB) volumes 1 and 2, is designed for professionals at all levels working in fire safety design, construction, and inspection.
It covers the interpretation and application of Part B of the Building Regulations and relevant British Standards, including BS 9999 and BS 9991.
Delivered by experienced Fire Engineers and Building Engineers, the course includes practical examples, quizzes, and case studies to reinforce learning. New entrants must complete the Principles of Fire Safety course first. The certificate course is divided
into two blocks of lectures and interactive sessions. Attendance at both blocks and passing the final assessment is required to earn the Certificate.
Course Contents
Day 1 – Introduction to ADB, B1 Means of warning and escape.
Day 2 – B1 Means of warning and escape continued, B2 Internal fire spread (linings), B5 Access and facilities for the fire service.
Day 3 – B3 Internal fire spread (structure).
Day 4 – B4 External fire spread, ADB Volume 1 and the differences in Volume 2.
Day 5 – Assessment Day (online).

Development Outcomes
By the end of the course delegates will be able to:
- Interpret regulatory requirements and guidance
- Apply the principles of fire safety
- Explain the impact of the key aspects of human responses, fire science and fire behaviour in buildings
- Describe why key building components are essential to good fire safety design
- Recognise the need for further training to be able to design and check for compliance with current legislation
- Be able to follow and apply the guidance in ADB Volumes 1 and 2 when checking design submissions against the functional requirements of the Building Regulations
Pre-Enrolment
The Fire Safety Practitioner Certificate is aimed at learners who already have a base level understanding of the principles of fire safety, fire science, fire behaviour and human behaviour in fire.
To ensure learners are at the correct level to undertake the course, we suggest you enrol in the Principles of Fire Safety course, to ensure you can keep pace with the lessons.

Steve is a seasoned professional with 28 years at Kent Fire & Rescue Service, excelling in operational, training, and fire safety roles. He's a Chartered Member of IOSH, a Member of the Institute of Fire Engineers, and holds numerous safety
qualifications including NEBOSH and NVQ Level 5 Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety. He is also s registered CITB/NEBOSH tutor.
