CABE Tour of Academic Partners - Republic of Ireland

Sharon Spice, Membership Director, and Rosemary Brewill, Academic Partner & Regional Lead, spent time in Ireland earlier this month connecting with several CABE academic partners across the Republic.

Munster Technological University

First on the bill was a visit to the Bishopstown campus of Munster Technological University (MTU). Sharon and Rosemary were joined in Cork by Past President Richard Flynn to meet MTU lecturers Joseph Kehoe, Mary Maloney and Sean Murray. The team spoke with students on the university’s two CABE Accredited courses, BSc (Hons) Construction Management (Level 8) and BSC Construction Management (Level 7), explaining CABE’s function as a professional membership body and how it supports members across Student, Technician, Associate and Graduate grades. Diarmuid Mac Donagh presentation

Dylan Murphy presentationSharon, Rosemary and Richard were also delighted to present certificates to MTU’s two CABE Best Final Year Student Award winners for 2025, Dylan Murphy and Diarmuid Mac Donagh. Both graduating with a Level 8 Construction Management degree,
Dylan and Diarmuid have won 12 months’ free membership
with CABE and we look forward to following their journey
into industry over the next year.

Atlantic Technological University

Next up, the CABE team were in Galway visiting the Atlantic Technological University (ATU), Sharon, Dave and Dr Taggartwhich has an astounding 11 CABE Accredited programmes in all! 
Sharon and Rosemary caught up with Dr Martin Taggart FCABE C. Build E and his other faculty colleagues from ATU’s Department of Building and Civil Engineering before giving presentations to full-to-bursting lecture halls of students. Attendees were then treated to an inspiring talk from ATU alumni member and 2025 CABE Gold Service Award winner, Dave Courtney FCABE C.Build E, who offered the students helpful examples from his professional experiences as well as his history with the Association. 

 

University of Limerick

Uni of Limerick team and students with CABE teamThe University of Limerick were next to host Sharon and Rosemary, who spoke with many first, second, third and fourth-year students taking the CABE Accredited BSc (Hons) Construction Management & Engineering course about their academic work and plans for the future. Past President Richard Flynn was able to join the visit also, talking to the students about his career and giving real-world examples to support their understanding of what to expect upon moving into the built environment professionally.
CABE’s representatives were guided round the site by Professor David Newport, Head of School of Engineering, and Associate Professors John Spillane and Jim Bradley, as well as Assistant Professors Michael Curran and Colin Butler.

Technological University of the Shannon

TUS visitFor the final day of the tour, Richard, Sharon and Rosemary headed to Athlone to visit the Technological University of the Shannon (TUS). They were hosted by Redmond Condon FCABE C.Build E, Programme Leader of the CABE Accredited BSc (Hons) Construction Management degree. Redmond introduced the team to his second-year students, who offered their perspectives on their education to date and fed further into the takeaways on what this demographic are looking for from a membership body and what kind of support they would expect.
