CABE and our Academic Partner and Approved Assessment Centre, Total Training and Development Ltd, have developed a partnership that enables completers of the CABE Certificate in Building Control the opportunity to enrol onto the Ofqual-regulated, CABE-accredited Level 4 Diploma in Building Control Site Inspection & Plan Assessment qualification through APEL (Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning).
The qualification is designed to cover all aspects of the role of a Building Inspector in a domestic environment:
- building control legal and statutory responsibilities
- understanding structures in building
control
- building control science of materials
- understanding fire safety in building control
- building
control residential inspection; and
- building control residential plan-checking assessment.

Learner Pre-requisites
All learners must have completed the CABE Certificate in Building Control and passed the end point assessment (EPA) before moving onto the Level 4 Diploma.
The below pre-criteria should be met when deciding if the package is correct for you:
- current industry experience, working within construction with access to construction sites
- based in the UK; and
- aged 18+
After completion of the diploma, learners are also eligible for Associate grade of CABE membership (ACABE).*
*Only applicable if the registrant has the required years of experience. TechCABE grade is available for those who do not meet the required experience levels.
What is a diploma?
A diploma is self-guided learning, in which you take responsibility for your own learning rather than relying solely on traditional classroom instruction or teacher guidance. You will still get one-on-one time with your tutor, who will monitor and guide you through your studies.
A diploma is designed to be flexible to fit in with your work and home life, so it can be worked on as and when suits you best.
You are supported throughout your diploma by your tutor and will have access to an online learning platform filled with resources to help you complete your modules.
Your start date is flexible. As soon as your enrolment is passed to the diploma provider, they will organise a start date with you.
Packages
Access to the Level 4 Diploma can be bought either as a stand-alone for those who have previously completed the Certificate in Building Control course, or purchased in a package which would include both weeks and assessment for the Certificate in Building Control course.
**Where applicable for non-members or current Student members as an upgrade. Grade is dependent upon current experience at time of booking.
