Will I automatically become registered with the Engineering Council after registering my expression of interest?
No. CABE membership and Engineering Council registration are not linked,
both have totally different processes for attainment. Please register your interest in Engineering Council registration by emailing engineering.council@cbuilde.com,
stating which level of registration you wish to apply for.
Which level of Engineering Council Registration am I eligible to apply for through CABE?
To apply for CEng,
you must hold a minimum of Chartered Building Engineer membership; for IEng you must hold a minimum of Chartered Member membership and for EngTech you must hold a minimum of Technician membership.
Can I apply for Engineering Council registration through CABE immediately after my attainment of CABE membership?
Yes. Providing that you fulfil the requirements as listed on the UK-SPEC competency framework. You will still be required
to register your interest at engineering.council@cbuilde.com, stating which level of registration you
wish to apply for.

How do I find out if my academic course is accredited by the Engineering Council?
All courses accredited by the Engineering Council are listed on the Engineering Council
accredited courses database. If your course is not listed there, you might find it in one of

Are there any deadlines for Engineering Council registration?
No. As long as you are a CABE member and you have paid your full CABE subscription, you may apply at any time.
After I have registered my interest in Engineering Council registration, what is the next stage?
Once you have registered your interest, you will receive detailed information
on next steps and be asked to submit the following:
- comprehensive CV: this must detail your experience, knowledge, and level of roles held. Any academic information will require dates of intake and graduation/pass date, institutions, and subjects studied
- relevant academic certificates to Engineering Council registration requirements: these must be countersigned by two people as true copies. These persons should be either registered with the Engineering Council, a Chartered
Member or Fellow of CABE, your sponsors or a senior manager in your place of work.
I am not sure if I am eligible for Engineering Council registration. May I send my CV to CABE for review before registering my interest?
No. It is important that you follow
all the necessary procedures as set out – Engineering Council have strict procedures we must follow in order to maintain our license.
How do I pay the fees in relation to Engineering Council registration? If I am an international member, do I need to pay in GBP or can I pay in another currency?
You must pay your fees through our online system and these are all in GBP.
Can I decide which route I am eligible for, e.g., Standard Academic Route or Technical Report Route?
No. CABE will advise accordingly upon review of your submitted documentation.
I think I am eligible for Engineering Council registration through the Standard Academic Route as outlined on the CABE Guidelines, but what happens if CABE advised that I am eligible for the Technical Report Route? Can I lodge an appeal for a review against CABE’s decision?
No. At every stage of registration, CABE, and our Assessors, follow the strict rules of the Engineering Council and will advise the route you are eligible for. However, if you have proof that your qualification is accredited for Engineering Council
registration with no further learning required, then you need to provide that evidence.

How long will the interview last for?

What language will the interview be conducted in?
The interview will be in English.
I am not confident in attaining Engineering Council registration by having an interview. Is there any bridging course for me to enrol in so that I could get gain Engineering Council registration without assessment or interview?
No. Interviews are a requirement of the Engineering Council.
Are there any courses to prepare for the Engineering Council interview or for writing the technical report?
CABE are exploring this and will advise should details become available. The CABE Membership Team are on hand to offer advice and guidance.
What is the approximate timeline for processing each registration, starting from the expression of interest to the invitation to attend an Engineering Council interview?
This is dependent on many different factors and the availability of external resources. Whilst it is difficult to give an approximate time, CABE would not anticipate it taking longer than four months.
How is the Engineering Council interview panel composed? What if there is any conflict of interest between me and one of the interview panel members?
The Association has recruited CABE Members who are at CEng level to serve as Engineering Council interview panel members and will endeavour to ensure there are not conflicts of interest.
Can I, at any point, opt out of the registration process if I realise my chances are slim in gaining Engineering Council registration? Would I lose out financially?
You are given information at every stage of the process, and a fee structure is applied at every stage – this is detailed within the guidelines you will receive once you start the process. You can withdraw at any time however if you have passed through
a stage a refund will not be given if you do decide to withdraw.
I have read the relevant Engineering Council competency framework (UK-SPEC) and I do not believe that I can fulfil all the requirements as listed on the competency framework. Should I still attempt to apply through CABE?
We
would not want any applicant to waste their time, which is why it is very important that you read the guidance notes and competency frameworks in full
UK-SPEC.
There are fees applied at every stage of the application process and no refunds will be given.
Is it necessary for me to provide my current employment information for Engineering Council registration?
It is a requirement on the application form.
I am a former CABE member, can I re-join CABE in order to register with the Engineering Council?
In order for a past member to re-join CABE, they may need to make a new application and will need
to pay the appropriate CABE membership subscription fees. If applying within two years of your membership ceasing, then you are eligible to apply at your previous grade. Any application made after two years will need to meet the entry requirements.
Only when your CABE membership has been renewed can you then apply for Engineering Council registration.
I am a CABE Member and have lost my academic certificates, but I believe that CABE has copies of them. Can you retrieve these copies so that I do not need to re-submit them?
Unfortunately,
as the documentation needs to be countersigned by two people as true copies, CABE cannot use any copies that may be held on file.
If I am unsuccessful in my application, can I re-apply for Engineering Council registration again?
In
line with the Engineering Council's procedures, if your application is unsuccessful you must wait six months before you can reapply.
If I have been registered with the Engineering Council successfully, do I need to do extra CPD hours to fulfil Engineering Council requirements?
CABE
have strict guidelines on CPD with members obliged to undertake at least 35 hours a year (or 105 hours over three years). CEng registrants must adhere to CABE’s CPD requirements: further information is contained within
UK-SPEC.
If I am successful and gain Engineering Council registration, can I just renew my registration and not keep my membership with CABE?
Engineering Council registration can only be held
through CABE if you are a CABE member.
