Scotland: government launch consultation on permitted development rights

As part of its aim to tackle the Scottish housing emergency, the Scottish Government is looking at permitted development rights (PDR) and whether or not it can play a larger role in helping to deal with the crisis.

Permitted development is essentially being allowed to carry out small building works on your home without the need to apply for planning permission, as long as the project meets certain criteria – for example, PDR only applies if you live in your house and it is not used for business purposes.

The Scottish Government have opened a consultation on potential PDR changes that may help housing development to move more quickly, so that effective policies can be brought into effect to “help deliver the right homes in the right places” across Scotland.

For more details on the survey and to take part, visit the Scottish Government’s website.

The consultation closes on 27 October.
