
Member Chartered Building Engineer (MCABE C.Build E) recognises your professional commitment to high ethical standards, professionalism, and technical competence by the awarding of the additional title – Chartered Building Engineer – which is regulated under the Association’s Royal Charter.
Chartered Building Engineers develop solutions to complex engineering problems using new or existing technologies and through innovation, creativity and technical analysis. You must prove you have a comprehensive understanding, and detailed
application at an expert level of proficiency.
To achieve Chartered Building Engineer you must show that you meet the competencies laid out in the Member Chartered Building Engineer Framework.

Following the introduction of BS Flex 8670 and UK Standards for Professional Engineering Competence and Commitment (UK-SPEC) fourth edition, CABE introduced new Competency Frameworks in February 2023.
Eligibility Criteria
There are three pathways available:
- Equivalent Membership
Apply online using evidence of equivalent membership with a recognised organisation, your CV, 2 years’ CPD record, details of two professionals that support your application and verification of qualifications.
or
- Academic Pathway
An appropriate Level 7 qualification within the built environment (e.g. Master’s Degree, Postgraduate Certificate, and Diploma), or equivalent vocational qualification within the built environment, plus three years' experience working in a relevant professional role with at least two years' in a position of responsibility.
Step One: apply
online with your CV, 2 years’ CPD record, details of two supporters, and verification of qualifications.
Step Two: completion of a Technical Report Submission followed by a
Professional Interview.

- Experience Pathway
Six years' experience working in a relevant professional role with at least 2 years in a senior position is required.
