BSR updates RBI Code of Conduct and BICoF

The Building Safety Regulator in England has recently updated the Registered Building Inspector (RBI) Code of Conduct and competency framework (BICoF) to expand the legal scope for some RBIs.

The changes apply to Class 2, categories C and F, and Class 3, category G – these RBIs can now be appointed by the BSR to advise on higher-risk building (HRB) work in England.

As per the BSR, this includes category B and certain category A work, limited to work involving internal layout changes within individual residential units within an HRB. The change acknowledges that some HRB work can be safely carried out by competent class 2C, 2F or 3G RBIs. The BSR will make appointments on a case-by-case basis for HRB work.

The updated Code of Conduct can be viewed on the Building Regulation page of the UK government website.
