Building Control Independent Panel in England release ‘problem statement’

Further to the publication of their Terms of Reference last week, the Building Control Independent Panel – an advisory group of the UK government’s Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) – has now released its so-called ‘problem statement’.

As per the MHCLG, the problem statement is the Panel’s starting position; it “outlines the challenges facing the building control sector overall and sets out the intention to work with stakeholders and the building control profession to consider the questions raised by the [Grenfell Tower] Inquiry.”

Very soon the Panel will be issuing a call for evidence from the building control sector in England and CABE will ensure all details of that consultation will be made available to our members when possible. Those findings will no doubt feed into the Panel’s review to government, due later this year, with government provisionally aiming to respond to that review in early 2026.

For now, access the published problem statement via the UK government website here.
