Demonstrate your specialist knowledge with CABE’s Residential Surveyor Section

CABE has launched the newly developed Residential Surveyor Section (RSS), designed to provide residential surveyors with an additional level of competence assessment and to evidence competence. The RSS will help residential surveyors set themselves apart in a crowded marketplace.

The new section is built around robust competence standards and qualifications to provide homeowners, landlords and commercial clients with the confidence to appoint technically competent surveyors who they know are operating within a solid ethical framework.

The new RSS comprises of three membership levels; each level recognises the qualifications, skills and knowledge held at different stages of a professional’s career:

1. Technician Residential Surveyor
2. Associate Residential Surveyor; and
3. Residential Surveyor.

To become a member of the RSS, individuals will be asked to evidence how they meet the competencies outlined in the RSS’ robust competency framework, which cover not just a residential surveyor’s knowledge and understanding of their role, but how they apply appropriate methods to their work, how they plan and mange workloads, how they communicate with clients and colleagues and how they apply professional commitment to deliver high standards. 

All stages of application will follow a peer-reviewed process and upon successful completion, applicants will be granted additional level descriptors – Building Engineer: Residential Surveyor – to use after their name, serving as a mark of professional validation to clients and colleagues alike.

Open to individuals working within the residential surveyor sector at any level, there are different application routes available, tailored to support any combination of experience and qualification.

The RSS is CABE’s second specialist section following the introduction of CABE’s Building Inspector Competence Assessment Scheme last year, which allows Building Inspectors to prove their competence against a specialised Building Inspector Framework.
