CABE Building Inspector Competency Assessment Scheme - Extension of Scope

13 January 2025

Two Building Control Inspectors

CABE’s Building Inspector Competence Assessment Scheme (CBICAS) is approved by the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) to certify the competence of Building Inspectors.

As a Registered Building Inspector (RBI) your certificate remains valid for four years, but during this time you may need to demonstrate that you are capable of working to an extended scope of competence.

The new CBICAS Scope Extension process has been designed to give RBIs – who registered via CBICAS – a route to evidence competence to prove that they have the knowledge and skills to undertake restricted activities and functions on additional building categories – extended scope.

The new CBICAS extension of scope is a two-stage process which includes a documentary submission and a review interview and interested applicants can start their application process today.
