As part of the Scottish Government’s ongoing commitment to its property flood resilience action plan, its Building Standards Division (BSD) have been looking to refine guidance within Section 3.3. Flooding and groundwater of the Building Standards Technical Handbooks. The aim is that more relevant information will enable designers to achieve compliance with Mandatory Standard 3.3 and to support building standards verifiers in their assessment of projects against the standard. Ultimately, this should feed into making both new and existing homes more resilient against flooding. In its current form, this guidance has been identified as in need of updating, therefore the BSD have opened a consultation to gather views on the proposed updates to Section 3.3. The consultation closes on 3 October 2025. For more information, and to begin the consultation, visit the Scottish Government’s consultation page.
