A new competence framework for construction procurement professionals was published on 8 April 2025.

Competence Framework for Procurement Professionals in the Built Environment in England has been developed on behalf of Sector Led Group 8 of the Industry Competence Steering Group (ICSG), in partnership with the Association for Project Management, The Chartered Institute of Building, the Construction Products Association, the Institute of Workplace and Facilities Management and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

As per the document, the framework is intended for use by:

  • professional institutions, regulators, enforcing authorities, licensing bodies and organisations who undertake procurement activities to assess the competence of those undertaking the procurement activities; and
  • individuals undertaking procurement activities to determine their own competence and to identify areas for development and/or to use those with the required expertise to undertake the procurement activities.

See the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply’s press release for further details and to access a copy of the framework itself.
