Safety and Sustainability – protecting people, protecting the environment

Date: 20 April 2024, Saturday

Time: HKT 09:30-13:00

Venue: HHB-208, 2/F, PolyU Hung Hom Bay Campus, 8 Hung Lok Road, Hung Hom, Kowloon, Hong Kong.

Risks to construction workers whilst in the workplace are universal; much can be learned by countries sharing their experiences of steps taken to mitigate these risks. In the UK, the introduction of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 1994 started a process that has seen construction fatalities fall by more than 70%. But was it only the legislation that improved the industry’s safety outcomes, or was it leadership from within the industry itself making the difference?

Speakers and Panellists:

  • Ms. Clarice Yu, JP, Director of Buildings, HKSAR Government.
Topic: Promoting innovation and applying pragmatism in building control
  • Ir Dr Edward Chan, Deputy General Manager, Project Management 2 Department, Henderson Land Development Co. Ltd. Topic: Encountering Sustainability and Climate Change: Future Proof Design for The Henderson
