Professional Information Note 100

CABE’s priority continues to be supporting our members through the Building Inspector Registration process and we know that there is a need for clarity over supervision during what is already a difficult time for colleagues in Building Control.

In response to this, CABE has issued Professional Information Note 100 on Building Inspector Registration and Supervision.

We have been in dialogue with the Building Safety Regulator and believe they will be issuing guidance on supervision in due course, but in the meantime this Professional Information Note outlines what we believe to be a proportionate approach to supervision in the event that either yourself, or members of your team, do not achieve registration before the deadline of 6 April 2024.

It is important to remember that registration continues after 6 April 2024 deadline - if you believe that you will not be ready to register by the deadline, apply for Class 1 registration now, and then complete your application through one of the three approved schemes.

Your Wellbeing

We know that the registration process is creating exceptional pressures on building inspectors and building control staff and it is vital to speak out if you are struggling, especially if it is affecting your mental or physical health.

Please remember that the CABE Benevolent Fund can offer you support with your mental health through its partnership with Anxiety UK. This can include access to counselling giving you the opportunity to talk through your worries.

I fully agree with this report, I fully understand why so many have left the profession.
