Storm Babet recently caused severe flooding across the UK and Republic of Ireland, with six confirmed casualties and thousands of homes effected by floodwater.

Heavy and persistent rainfall fell, with some locations collecting two months’ worth of rain in just three days. Some areas of the Scottish Highlands saw 203mm of rainfall and 149mm of rainfall in Yorkshire.

In Wales, Storm Babet caused flooding in part of mid and north Wales, with Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service saying the floods were keeping them “extremely busy”. North Wales Fire and Rescue Service experienced over 200 calls between 20-21 October, also.

In the Republic of Ireland, Met Éireann issued weather warnings for 14 of the Republic of Ireland’s 26 counties, with counties Kilkenny, Wexford and Waterford issued a Status Orange wind and rain warning, with wind speeds with the capacity to produce dangerous, stormy conditions, on Monday 23 October.

Storm Babet has now passed and now begins the task of repairing all of the damage caused.
CABE Benevolent Fund (Ben Fund) is thinking about members, those affected by the flooding and who may need short-term support, until formal support is executed by other organisations. The Ben Fund can assist through a variety of financial plans in order to support you in times of hardship.

Ben Fund has also partnered with Anxiety UK, who offer confidential counselling for those who may be distressed as a result of Storm Babet.

The Ben Fund is kept running by the generous donations of CABE members, as well as some fundraising activities carried out by both the Association and members.
