With the recent commencing of changes on 1 October 2023 in accordance with the Building Safety Act (2022), this has raised some questions for those with duty-holding responsibilities working within higher risk buildings (HRB’s).

To help answer those questions, CABE has recently posted a short series of question and answer videos to our YouTube channel, featuring CABE Chief Executive, Dr. Gavin Dunn, and David Ing, Managing Director of Fabrick Marketing Agency.

Six short videos have been posted surrounding the key questions raised in response to changes for those with duty holding responsibilities. The topics of the videos include how to process and maintain HRB’s under the oversight of the Building Safety Regulator, introducing clear accountability for duty-holders working on HRB’s, and demonstrating and proving competence in accordance with the Building Safety Act (2022), and more.

These videos have been created to help aid your understanding of the changes to the sector, and give you further information into the biggest change to the industry for over 70 years.

Everything I seem to read or hear, refers to HRB, as far as the BSR is concerned, Including the CABE webinar, High Rise Building Registration. With HRB being more of a specialists area, should those carrying out inspections on HRB projects, be the one's having to prove there Competency, with the very expensive undertaking. Has there been any consideration of the number of Building Control Officers, that will possibly be leaving the profession, who may never have inspected HRB !! If CABE have quoted 16% from a survey on there present membership, 16% from the country, may lead to upwards of 400 Inspectors leaving, a very stretched organisation, very soon. and like me, how many of them only carry out Inspections on small Domestic work.
