Working in partnership with Robust Details Limited, CABE is pleased to announce a new free e-learning course focusing on Part E Sound and Building Acoustics Measurement.
Robust Details Limited provides a scheme where users can register new-build residential property plots for sound insulation testing,  and follow tested and approved forms of construction as an alternative to conducting pre-completion sound testing. This scheme has been in operation since 2004, and is used as a matter of course by all of the major builders and the vast majority of SMEs. The online refresher training contains eleven separate modules, and is available to view for free for CABE Members. These modules cover the basics of sound and building acoustics measurement; they also explain how different material properties contribute to sound insulation, and how to avoid costly errors on site.  The eleven modules consist of; Module One – Introduction to Sound Transmission and Sound Insulation for Housing Module Two – Sound Insulation Criteria for New Housing Module Three – Compliance Pathways for Sound Insulation in New Housing Module Four – Design and Development of a Robust Detail Module Five – Masonry and Blockwork Separating Walls Module Six – Concrete Separating Floors Module Seven – Timber and Lightweight Steel and Separating Walls Module Eight – Timber and Lightweight Steel Frame Separating Floors Module Nine – Common Fault Errors in Separating Walls Module Ten – Common Fault Errors in Separating Floors Module Eleven – Additional Guidance Each of the 11 modules are approximately 20 minutes long, and you can work through them at you own pace. A short quiz at the end of the module allows you to reinforce your learning, and prove that you have an understanding of the topic.   This is a great CPD opportunity for all CABE Members, and completion of all the online course counts as 3 CPD hours. The e-learning scheme will benefit all, and is especially relevant for architects, acoustics consultants, building control surveyors, building surveyors, building maintenance managers and environmental consultants.
