We are delighted to release more information on CABE’s Building Inspector Competence Assessment Scheme (CBICAS). Although we are not yet ready to open for applications, CABE has published key documents to enable Building Inspectors to start to prepare their applications for assessment through the CABE Building Inspector Competence Assessment Scheme (CBICAS).
CBICAS is approved by the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) to certify individuals for registration as a Building Inspector as required under the Building Safety Act (2022), and this scheme is one of the ways CABE members who work in Building Control are able to prove their competency and gain the necessary certification to register. CBICAS will also be an Engineering Council approved standard and successful assessment at Class 2, 3 or 4 will entitle CABE Members to register with Engineering Council as an Incorporated Engineer (IEng).  The scheme operates in three key stages:
Stage 1 – application and career portfolio submission
Stage 2 – submission of Technical Report and competence statements; and
Stage 3 – two-part Technical Report Interview and Professional Review Interview. On successful completion you will gain the necessary certification to register with the Building Safety Regulator, and also become eligible for IEng registration with the Engineering Council. More information, including details on the scheme, the CABE Building Inspector Competence Framework (CABE BICoF), a complete guide to the CBICAS for Classes 2,3 and 4, and templates to support your application (when open) can be accessed at the links below; More about the scheme CABE Building Inspector Competence Framework (CABE BICoF) Complete Guide for Classes 2,3 and 4 Frequently Asked Questions
