The Southern Region held an on-line CPD on "Ecology for Engineers" on 27 February, which was presented by Joshua Stafford who is a Principal Ecologist at Sweco UK ltd.

This presentation provided those who attend the event with a broad insight into the kinds of wildlife that Building Engineers could encounter, the habitats they use and their individual lifecycles.

Following this introduction delegates were informed where you might encounter them on a construction site and how they may be impacted by the types of works engineers undertake. We were then informed on the important legal part, the “how to not get arrested” covering what an engineer must do to ensure they are working within the law and laying out the key details around what is considered "Reckless" and when you may be acting in this manner.

Joshua then follow up with some case study’s and anecdotal stories from his own experience working with engineering teams, then closed the presentation up with a small summary list of things that he would recommend engineers check before going to site.Ecology for EngineersEcology slide
