On the 12th January the Southern Region held their AGM followed by a CPD talk on the changes to BS9991 - mainly in relation to smoke control systems. The event was attended by just under 35 members. During the AGM, Michael Wadood, Chair of the Southern Region, offered a report on the regions undertakings for the members. In review of their activity for 2022, he reported that as a result of their on-line CPD events, and the 4 regional conferences, they were able to offer members 9 technical events for 2022 which created 32 hrs CPD and 1 very good social event, which was their Spring Ball held in April 2022. The Regional committee will work closely with CABE HQ to ensure that the Regional activities for 2023 are suitable for all members, but they do need your support to attend the activities and for you to tell them what training/CPD needs you require to maintain or improve your competency. With this the committee will review and consider how best to support members growth.
There was also a Presidential address and review from Joseph Birt as well as a CABE update by Dr Gavin Dunn, CEO for CABE. Following the AGM, Allan Meek Director at SCS offered his presentation on the current draft BS9991 where he focused his talk on the potential changes which could come in based on smoke ventilation and the provision of an evacuation lift. The next Regional CPD event will take place on the 27th February and will cover Ecology in Construction. The committee are also trying to arrange another presentation at the same event on Japanese Knotweed.
