Engineering Technician (EngTech)

By applying proven techniques and procedures, Engineering Technicians solve practical engineering problems.

Registration for EngTech requires you to demonstrate your competency based on the EngTech competencies in the United Kingdom Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC). To be eligible to apply you will need to be a current Technician, or higher, member of CABE.

Step 1: Read through the Guidelines

Step 2: Qualifications and Competencies                  

To ascertain if your academic qualifications are accredited by the Engineering Council, please see the following options:

  • for degrees, visit QuaD (Qualifications Database).
  • for older qualifications, such as HNC and HND, visit Recognised Older Courses.

The required competencies can be found in UK-SPEC.

The UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC) describes the competence and commitment requirements that must be met for registration as a Engineering Technician (EngTech). It includes examples of activities that could demonstrate achievement of the requirements to enable you to meet them.

Qualifications that exemplify the required knowledge and understanding are listed, however, it should be noted that there are other ways of demonstrating achievement.

Step 3: CV and Certificates             

In order for us to gain an overview and to advise on eligibility, please send your CV and academic certificates to registration@cbuilde.com, and please state which registration you are applying for.

  • Comprehensive CV – this must detail your experience, knowledge, and level of roles held. Any academic information will require dates of intake and graduation/pass date, institutions, and subjects studied.
  • Relevant academic certificates to EngTech registration requirements – these must be countersigned by two people as true copies and details of who can sign can be found on page 6 on the guidance notes.

Please note: your membership number must be referenced on ALL correspondence, including bank transfers and queries.

Step 4: Payments and Review

On receipt of your documents, you will be invoiced for a non-refundable admin fee of £25. Once your payment is received, CABE will begin the process of reviewing your documents. We will then contact you as to whether the information submitted meets the required criteria for EngTech registration*. You will be contacted in due course with the outcome of this initial stage.

*If your details do not meet the necessary requirements we will advise accordingly.
