Chartered Engineers (CEng) work to solve engineering problems by utilising new or existing applications. With creative solution-driven insights,
they enact change and facilitate progress, often while bearing technical accountability for complex systems with high-risk levels.
Registration for CEng requires you to demonstrate your competency based on the CEng competencies in the United
Kingdom Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC) which governs all engineering institutions. To be eligible to apply for CEng registration you need to be a current Chartered Building Engineer or Fellow of CABE.
Below is a video to help you in the first stage of the process. Please listen and watch carefully to ensure you are clear on the next steps.
Step 2: Read through the Guidelines
You can now access the comprehensive guidelines via the button below. Please make sure you take the time to familiarise yourself fully with all the information provided. These guidelines explain eligibility and the different routes to CEng
registration, the interview process, and fee structure.
Please note – the Engineering Council has strict rules and regulations that determine our ability to manage our licence; therefore, the processes described relate to those
required by the Engineering Council.
To ascertain if your academic qualifications are accredited by the Engineering Council, please see the following options:
for degrees, visit QuaD (Qualifications Database).
for older qualifications, such as HNC and HND, visit Recognised Older Courses.
The required competencies can be found in UK-SPEC.
The UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC) describes the competence and commitment requirements that must be met for registration as a Chartered Engineer
(CEng). It includes examples of activities that could demonstrate achievement of the requirements to enable you to meet them.
Qualifications that exemplify the required knowledge and understanding are listed, however, it should
be noted that there are other ways of demonstrating achievement.
In order for us to gain an overview and to advise on eligibility, please send your CV and academic certificates to registration@cbuilde.com, and please state which registration
you are applying for.
Comprehensive CV – this must detail your experience, knowledge, and level of roles held. Any academic information will require dates of intake and graduation/pass date, institutions, and subjects studied.
Relevant academic certificates to CEng registration requirements – these must be countersigned by two people as true copies and details of who can sign can be found on page 6 on the guidance notes.
Please note: your membership number must be referenced on ALL correspondence, including bank transfers and queries.
Step 5: Payments and Review
On receipt of your documents, you will be invoiced for a non-refundable admin fee of £25. Once your payment is received, CABE will begin the process of reviewing your documents. We will then contact you as to whether the information submitted
meets the required criteria for CEng registration*. You will be contacted in due course with the outcome of this initial stage.
*If your details do not meet the necessary requirements we will advise accordingly.
