The Building Safety Regulator (BSR) recently released an ebulletin covering a variety of useful information. Please find a summary below:
2024 review
HSE Chief Inspector of Buildings, Philip White, has written a 2024 review entitled ‘2024: A transformative year for building safety.’ Access the review via the UK government’s ‘Making Buildings Safer’ campaign website.
PAPs applying for Building Assessment Certificates
The ‘Making Buildings Safer’ website now hosts helpful resources for when Principal Accountable Persons (PAPs) are asked to apply for Building Assessment Certificates (BACs). It includes details on the purposes of BACs, several explanatory videos such
as one called ‘Demystifying the Building Assessment Certificate’, a list of buildings prioritised to apply for a BAC, and how the application process works end to end.
Explore the available resources here.
Support for Resident Management Companies
Continuing the theme of helpful online resources, there is now a dedicated space on the same site where residents of high-rise buildings (HRBs) in England that are managed by Resident Management Companies (RMCs), or those under the Right to Manage scheme
or in commonhold properties, can access information. Access the RMC area of the ‘Making Buildings Safer’ website here.
Share your views
An independent agency, Verian, is conducting confidential and voluntary research on behalf of BSR, covering two areas:
- understanding Building Control Body (BCB) – complete a questionnaire to help BSR understand the views of BCBs awaiting inspection and how the process could be improved. Access the questionnaire by 31 January here.
- experiences of Accountable Persons (APs) – share your experiences of being, or working alongside, an AP. Complete the initial questionnaire here.
Online training course
The BSR is conducting a live training course on the role of Accountable Persons and Principal Accountable Persons (PAPs) on Tuesday 18 February. It is designed for those with AP/PAP duties and management duties under the Building Safety Act 2022, and
will help support compliance with new legislation. For all the detail and to book your place, visit the Solutions area of the HSE website.
