The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage within Ireland’s government has released a second edition of Bringing Back Homes – Manual for the Reuse of Existing Buildings.

As per a recent communication from the Building Standards Advisory Unit, “the objective of the manual is to support and facilitate the reuse of vacant and derelict buildings for residential use.”

Since its first edition was published in 2018, policy context has altered, there have been changes to building regulations and additions to the grants potentially available for bringing these types of property back into use for residential purposes. Therefore, the publication has been fully revised, and is accompanied by a Your Questions Answered document, which should prove very useful to property owners, local authorities and those in the construction industry who need advice in this area.
