COVID-19 Update 20 April
20 April 2020
Staff at CABE HQ are working hard to make sure that members are informed of the latest developments regarding the COVID-19 emergency. Read below to find out the latest from the CIC and the government on industry developments.
CIC Coronavirus Crisis: Key Issues for Recovery
At the end of last week the Construction Industry Council (CIC) members were asked to provide ideas for the key issues that needed to be brought to the attention of the Construction Leadership Council (CLC) in relation to the recovery from the coronavirus crisis.
A significant number of responses were received by the CIC and they have now collated the responses into a paper which they will be putting to the CLC.
The CIC paper, Coronavirus Crisis: Key Issues for the Recovery, covers numerous suggestions including:
- how to ease the lockdown restrictions on construction sites
- public procurement construction as a stimulus; and
- employer responsibilities.
The CLC will be pulling together contributions from all the organisations represented on the COVID-19 industry task force.
Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme Guide for Employers
Following confirmation from the Chancellor on Friday that the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme has been extended by one month to 30 June 2020 the government has launched a online claims service.
A step-by-step guide to submitting claims is also now available. If, as an employer, you find yourself in the difficult position of having to furlough your employees this guide should help you to submit claims and to reduce delays.
