Fire Stopping & Fire Doors - The New Regulations

An important chance for members to make themselves aware of the recent changes in legislation relating to fire-stopping. The aim was for an ‘all you need to know in one event’, a combined event with Rockwool, leading practitioners in fire safety, and Premdor, also leading in their field as fire door suppliers to the industry.

The requirements in this area are now very stringent, and there was a very enthusiastic and large (thirty) ready-to-learn audience for the event, which included a demonstration by Carri Blackshaw of Rockwool of a 30-minute delay firewall and 1-hour delay fire seals products, followed by a presentation on specification and fixing of fire door sets by Hannah Mansell of Premdor.

The two issues are fundamentally linked, as ill-fitting fire doors can allow fire and smoke to bypass the doorway and ingress into otherwise protected areas. Everyone involved in building structures needs to be aware of the new requirements, and a joined-up approach is our starting point here in the Poole area, to ensure that everyone in the building chain, from construction to inspection, is fully aware of the part they need to play.

There was warm feedback from all at the event, with several requests for a repeat performance next year. The information was welcomed, with much audience involvement and many lively questions over the three hours. Our warm thanks to Carri and Hannah for representing two leading manufacturers in this field, and for such a useful evening.

Our thanks to all members, guests and presenters for their support over 2019, and we’ll be back in January – a very happy Christmas to all.
