CABE and the Faculty of Engineering and Environment at Northumbria University are partnering with a view to establishing links between university students and industry to promote educational and environmental collaboration that is advantageous to both parties. Below are details of a range of propositions made by the Department of Mechanical and Construction Engineering.

The Faculty have several MSc candidates who can work on your projects providing 'free consultancy' (as in industry placement for any number of months or even over a year) saving you both, time and effort. These MSc candidates will work for you until a given project has been accomplished.

1). These projects could be for your 'external customer', or alternatively 'internal customers'; any project that may have been sitting on your 'back burner' and you have yet not got around to start working on it due to your time constraints and other commitments and priorities.

For instance, what is the water footprint and carbon footprint of your built assets and how it can be reduced by in situ affordable technologies and techniques with (cost effective) payback time, in order to meet legal carbon cut targets; thereby enhancing the sustainable image of the Organisation even more; or other similar tasks.

Similarly, it could be any legislative and/or regulatory aspect that you need investigation in support of your organisation - absolutely all free of charge.

2). Plus, if there is any research area you are interested in, e.g. any specific challenges that your organisation faces and need investigation to be resolved via research. These MSc candidates can take those challenges as their research topic for their dissertation and work on it to produce fruitful results / recommendations to inform your (multi-criteria) decision-making to resolve a given challenge.

3). There is also the potential to carry out an initial / scoping study on any innovation, new idea and/or income diversification opportunity that your organisation wants to establish the potential of. This may well provide, at least, an initial momentum saving you time and effort.

MSc candidates would not encroach any of your time and effort; they will be directly supervised by the Faculty throughout their time in placement. Your organisation simply needs to establish challenges you face that you require to be resolved and any associated information.
