This event was a chance for members to visit the ‘Mix Onsite’ concrete plant run by AMS Concrete of Avon Material Supplies in Wimborne, on the edge of Poole on 31st October 2019.

This was a fascinating insight into the production and management of the variety of mix designs available for a wide range of different uses, from kerbs and foundations to roads and walls.

Onsite mixing is the economical and efficient approach to concrete application, and the visit included an introductory talk about the process of site mix and delivery and gauging amounts, working to tight codes of practice and British Standards to ensure full eco-credibility. We then had a full tour and a chance to discuss the process with AMS managers, including the recycling of materials through cleaning and screening. A dry run batch was made especially for us to illustrate the full process.

An informative evening for members, much enjoyed by all, with lively questions. Our thanks to AMS and Avon Materials, especially Ian Mariner, for their support and an informative and enjoyable evening for members.
