Fire Safety in the Design, Management and use of Residential Buildings: BS 9991

Event Summary

This seminar provides an introduction to the principles on which BS 9991:2024 Fire Safety in the Design, Management and use of Residential Buildings is based. This standard complements BS 9999:2017 Code of practice for fire safety in the design, management and use of buildings, which excludes residential uses from its scope. This code of practice reflects current thinking in specifying fire precautions for long term residential use buildings and provides greater flexibility for certain features that were previously commonly agreed using a fire engineered approach.

This is typified by extended travel distances when additional features such as sprinklers, mist systems or HVAC systems are incorporated in the design. The fire resistance of the elements of structure can also be reduced if the ventilation conditions
        are favourable in the compartment.
