This Webinar by Sarah Sorrell of Oakley Estates Surveying Services will be looking at the need to be inclusive, how to be an accessible business, designing with access in mind and will cover the legislation and obligations driving this.
Following over 20 years of experience as a Property Surveyor, Sarah provides training sessions which covers information on the Equality Act 2010 and the design guidance documents available as well as handy tips and advise about the small changes you can make to your business and simple ideas to implement when designing.
Having been a Property Surveyor for over 20 years Sarah took the decision this January to bite the bullet and set up her own surveying and access consultancy. She started many years ago as an Architectural Technician after undertaking design qualifications and then went on to gain a BSc(Hons) in Building Surveying. Sarah's roles over the years have increasingly seen her working with adults with disabilities, most recently as a regional property surveyor with Mencap.
Over the years, Sarah has developed a real passion for creating inclusive environments through design and refurbishment, and now in her own business she undertakes access audits and advises clients on how they can make positive changes to be more inclusive.
Her clients include industries such as leisure, hospitality, culture and heritage, she finds it to be varied, exciting and very rewarding. Ultimately we all need to do our bit to make society as a whole more accessible, it can be argued that people are not disabled by their medical condition but by structures and attitudes in society, therefore we have chance to remove these barriers.
Sarah firmly believes that inclusive design can be both functional and practical but also beautiful. Her webinar session will provide information on the Equality Act 2010 and the design guidance documents available but also handy tips and advise about the small changes you can make to your business and simple ideas to implement when designing.
